Main Application of Filter Membrane

 

Especially, water treatment is one of the most common applications of filter membrane.

 

Membrane water treatment is a solid-liquid separation technology. It mainly use membrane pores to filter water and remove the impurities in the water without any chemical changes. As you can see it is a simple technology for water treatment.

 

Other Applications of Filter Membrane

Filter membrane is also used for the production of ultrapure water and seawater desalination. In this case, the reverse osmosis memvbranes are usually used.

 

For ultrafiltration membranes and microfiltration membranes, their applications often find in the treatment of feces and urine, urban waterway, and all kinds of wastewater. In industry, they are used in the production of dairy, semiconductor, food, paper, and pharmaceutical.

 

PES(Polyethersulfone) for Filter Membranes

Polyethersulfone is a thermoplastic high polymer with outstanding properties. It is typically resistant to high temperature, and has excellent machinery, physical, and insulating properties. Therefore, it has been the ideal material for filter membranes for a very long time.

 

PES membranes are a material made of polyethersulfone ultrafine fibers by hot-melt bonding together. It is a kind of deep filter membrane.

 What are the benefits of the PES membrane?

1. PES membrane is made of food-grade isotactic polypropylene without any additives in the whole production process.

2. PES membrane is chemically and physically stable, has good compatibility.

3. With a series of pores, PES membrane has high porosity, large dirt holding capacity, and good pressure resistance. It can be recoiled and disinfected at a high temperature.

4. PES membrane is a hydrophilous filter membrane. It is characterized by high flow rate, low dissolution, and great strength. Besides, it doesn’t absorb proteins and extracts and won’t pollute the sample.

Nylon

Features

1. Good temperature resistance

Nylon membrane can withstand 121 ℃ saturated steam autoclave sterilization for 30 minutes, with the maximum working temperature of 60 ℃.

2. Good chemical stability

Nylon membrane can withstand dilute acids, dilute alkalis, alcohols, esters, oils, hydrocarbons, various organic and inorganic compounds such as halogenated hydrocarbons and organic oxides.

 

Uses

1. Filtration for electronics, microelectronics, and semiconductor industry water and tissue culture medium;

2. Filtration of medical liquid, beverage, high-purity chemical;

3. Filtration of aqueous solutions and organic mobile phases.

 

PVDF(Polyvinylidene Fluoride)

Features

1. The PVDF membrane has high mechanical strength, high tensile strength, good heat resistance, chemical stability, and low protein adsorption rate;

2. It has strong negative electrostatic and hydrophobic properties. Besides, it has both hydrophobic and hydrophilic forms;

3. But it cannot tolerate acetone, DMSO, THF, DMF, dichloromethane, chloroform, etc.

 

Uses

1. Hydrophobic PVDF membranes are mainly used for gas and steam filtration as well as high-temperature liquid filtration;

2. Hydrophilic PVDF membranes are typically used for purification and filtration of tissue culture media, additives and other sterilizing filtration solvents and chemical raw materials, as well as the sterile treatment of reagents and filtration of high-temperature liquids, etc.

PTFE

Features

PTFE membrane has the most extensive chemical compatibility and can withstand strong solvents such as DMSO, THF, DMF, dichloromethane, and chloroform.

 

Uses

The filtration of all organic solutions, especially the filtration of strong solvents that other membranes cannot tolerate.
