There are many different types of non-stick cookware coatings on the market, and choosing the product that best matches your needs isn’t always an easy decision. After all, with so many solutions to choose between, it’s easy to understand why people can feel overwhelmed by the choice; luckily, though, our experts here at Polima PES, as a leading provider of premium non-stick pan coatings, are on hand to help you understand more about the options available to you and which of these is likely to be the safest bet.

What are the Safest Types of Non-Stick Coatings?

Following safety concerns regarding the use of traditional non-stick pan coatings such as Teflon, it’s perhaps unsurprising that many consumers and manufacturers alike are hesitant when choosing a material. After all, consumers are increasingly mindful of the potential health risks associated with certain types of non-stick coatings, but luckily, there are plenty of excellent safe options.

Ceramics

Among the many different types of non-stick coatings available, perhaps the safest has to be ceramic non-stick coatings, which are made from inorganic materials and do not contain the potentially harmful chemicals found in some traditional alternatives. Critically, these coatings are free from PTFE and PFOA, and their natural composition generally helps provide additional reassurance to consumers.

It’s also worth noting that ceramic non-stick coatings are generally well-regarded for their durability and scratch resistance, both of which are naturally very important from the perspective of non-stick cookware. This means that they are less likely to degrade over time, keeping them working effectively while also maintaining the safety of prepared foods. With that being said, though, it’s still worth noting that abrasive cleaning tools and high heat settings could still place pressure on the integrity of the coating.

PES

As an incredibly stable and durable thermoplastic material, PES has rapidly become one of the leading options for high-temperature thermoplastics on the market - and it just so happens that it also lends itself perfectly to use in non-stick coatings. Indeed, thanks to its thermal and chemical stability, PES non-stick coatings are much less likely to degrade when exposed to the temperatures typically used in cooking, making them excellent options to consider.

Enamel

Another type of non-stick coating that you could consider is enamel. Enamel coatings offer a mildly non-stick solution, although it’s important to keep in mind that their non-stick properties are not as generous as PES and ceramics. They may also be prone to cracking. Nonetheless, enamel coatings are incredibly resistant to high temperatures, unreactive, and easy to use and clean, making them excellent options to consider as a non-stick solution.
